🔗 Share this article Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session The British driver has outscored his teammate at all of the past five grands prix. The McLaren driver narrowly beat fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. Norris, who took the championship lead from Piastri by one point after taking the win in Mexico City a fortnight back, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs. Before then, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout set to begin at the evening session. Max Verstappen, the other racer in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind Norris, ended up in 17th place as his team ran a unique setup. Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, albeit lightly, when he lost control at corner four during the early running. The Japanese slid over the curbs on exit before spinning across the run-off area, and was lucky to escape with just a light touch of the wall. Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn leading to the last turn on to the main straight. Hamilton wrapped up in P19, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver. The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber P3, 0.619secs slower than the Australian's time. The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
